Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominee Lito Arkangel will kick off the Volcano Art Center’s new music program, “Rainforest Mele,” with two performances today at Volcano Art Center’s Hale Ho‘omana.
Arkangel’s music consists of classic contemporary/traditional Hawaiian songs that not only reveal his heart and soul, but also perpetuate the true and authentic beauty of the Hawaiian culture through music.
Arkangel will be accompanied by Adam Kay on bass and Dwight Tokumoto on guitar, with hula performed by Pua Kalaui-Kahoonei. He will perform songs from his latest album, “Me Ke Aloha.” This is Arkangel’s first CD and it pays homage to his Hawaiian culture by crossing more than 200 years of classic Hawaiian music.
He is working on his second CD that will be filled with his take on a collection of modern songs. Speaking about his style, Arkangel said, “If I sing one song and it changes your life, that’s awesome. That’s just one small example of what music can do.”
Arkangel’s performances are at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and online, $20 for VAC members and $25 for nonmembers.
‘Ohelo Café will sell pupu plates with vegetarian options. Beer from Big Island Brewhaus and wine also will be available for purchase.
